Something In The Way She Moves

My absolute favorite Beatle couple, George Harrison and Pattie Boyd, met on the set of A Hard Day's Night in 1964, where she had a small role as a schoolgirl. One of the first things George ever said to Pattie was a marriage proposal, which she laughed at. He asked for a date instead. They soon became inseparable. . . Except for by crazed Beatles fans, who were just plain cruel to her for "stealing George away." Despite this, they bought a house together in 1965, Kinfauns (which they painted psychedelically). George proposed on Christmas day 1965, with the permission of manager Brian Epstein. They married in January 1966, a picture perfect ceremony. :) She said about their honeymoon: "We lounged on the beach, went to the famous Sandy Lane Hotel, swam, talked and walked, and I was so happy I thought I might burst. It was bliss to have George to myself, no work pulling either of us and no fans making life a misery." Pattie gave up her career as a model to be a stay-at-home wife, though they never had any kids.
Pattie and George first did drugs together accidentally in 1966, and it became a constant in their lives. Pattie wanted spiritual fulfillment, and she introduced the Beatles to transcendental meditation and Indian culture around 1966. This became VERY popular with celebrities after that. Her love for the ideas faded, but George followed them for his whole life, which drove a wedge between them. Also, George had been unfaithful to her for a number of years. The final straw was George's affair with Ringo's wife, Maureen. Pattie was very isolated when one of George's best friends, Eric Clapton, sent her a love letter (and the rest I blogged about here). They weren't very close after their divorce in 1977 (after which she married and later divorced Clapton), but Pattie still says that George was the love of her life.
George wrote numerous songs about Pattie, notably: "I Need You," "It's All Too Much," "Something(my favorite!)," and "Isn't It A Pity."
Well, this tops off my 14 days of couples! I saved the best for last. :)
