La Bascule et la Belle

Eric Clapton (of the Yardbirds, the Bluesbreakers, and Cream ) met Charlotte Martin in London at the Speakeasy Club in 1965. He was smitten with the French model's beauty... They soon moved together into a flat in Regents Park. One sweet thing that Eric did was quote passages of 'La Marseillaise' (aka the French national anthem, used at the beginning of the Beatles' "All You Need Is Love") on Saturday Club in 1966 as tribute to her during Cream's act. On June 25, 1967 Eric and Charlotte were on the "All You Need Is Love" segment of the 'Our World' satellite broadcast. During their relationship, they became close friends with another couple, the lovely Pattie Boyd and George Harrison, which ended up to be unfortunate. Charlotte got too close to George, Eric fell for Pattie, and the rest is history.
